Rhenus has activated a new overland transport corridor through Jordan to maintain cargo flows between Europe and the Middle East amid ongoing regional disruptions. The German logistics company initiated this route to mitigate persistent challenges affecting traditional maritime shipping lanes. The new corridor aims to provide a reliable alternative for freight movement, connecting European origins with destinations throughout the Gulf region, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. This development addresses challenges posed to traditional sea routes, offering a consistent land-based connection. The route specifically links Europe and Türkiye with key Gulf markets.

Corridor Details and Transit Times

The new corridor integrates road and multimodal transport solutions, which Rhenus states are designed to enhance stability and predictability in supply chain operations. This logistics framework requires coordination among various Rhenus teams located in Germany, Italy, Türkiye, and the UAE. These teams collaborate to ensure smooth operations across the entire route. Current transit times for cargo range from 10 to 13 days when originating from Türkiye. Shipments departing from Europe typically experience transit times of 19 to 22 days. These durations are contingent on prevailing border and operational conditions across the route. The corridor combines road and multimodal transport to provide more stable and predictable supply chain operations, offering a key alternative to sea freight.

Early Performance and Key Shipment

Within its first month of operation, the Rhenus Jordan Corridor handled more than 10 full truckload shipments, transporting over 190,000 kilograms of cargo. The German logistics company recently completed a time-sensitive shipment of oilfield equipment for the oil and gas supplier FTE. This particular consignment originated in Lyon, France, and was destined for Dubai. The equipment utilized a multimodal route, involving road transport and ferry connections through Trieste and Mersin. It subsequently entered the Gulf region via Jordan, reaching Dubai in 18 days. This successful delivery shows the corridor's capability to handle critical and time-sensitive cargo efficiently. The early performance metrics demonstrate the corridor's immediate impact and its potential to alleviate supply chain pressures.

Industry Context and Demand

The new Rhenus Jordan Corridor establishes a direct logistics link between Europe and Türkiye, extending its reach to key Gulf markets. This overland route facilitates cargo movement to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. The corridor was developed to address persistent disruptions impacting traditional maritime shipping lanes to the region. It offers a consistent alternative for goods originating in Europe and Türkiye, aiming to provide greater reliability and predictability for supply chains serving the Middle East economies. The initiative supports continuous trade flows amidst complex geopolitical and logistical challenges. The new solution responds to rising demand for alternatives to traditional sea freight and direct overland routes affected by geopolitical tensions, providing a strategic option for businesses.

Customer Perspective

The new corridor responds to increasing demand for alternatives to traditional sea freight and direct overland routes affected by geopolitical tensions. Rhenus designed the solution to address these market needs, providing a strong and dependable logistics option. The Jordan Corridor accommodates varied cargo requirements, supporting both tautliner and reefer truck operations. This flexibility allows for the transport of general goods as well as temperature-sensitive shipments, providing a full logistics option for customers. This adaptability ensures that a wide range of industries can benefit from the corridor's services, from manufacturing to perishables, further enhancing its value proposition in the current global trade environment.
