The Ministry of Environment organized cleanup campaigns across various governorates in Jordan to mark Arab Environment Day. These activities took place in Balqa, Umm Qais, Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, Karak, Zarqa, Madaba, Amman, Al-Dhulayl, Deir Alla, Tafileh, and Ma’an. Volunteers and ministry staff worked to remove waste and improve local environmental conditions throughout the regions. These efforts aimed to raise awareness regarding ecological preservation across the country.
Cleanup Efforts Across Northern Governorates
Campaigns took place at Jerusalem Street in Balqa, the Royal Pavilion in Umm Qais, and near the Faculty of Archaeology at Yarmouk University in Irbid. These locations served as primary sites for waste collection and environmental restoration efforts within the northern districts.
Separately, cleanup operations were conducted in the Dibeen forests, Al-Manshiyya, and at Al-Jazaza School in Jerash. Personnel worked to clear debris and improve the surroundings at these specific sites. Activities also extended to Ajloun, where teams held events at the Abeen-Abaleen Health Center and Ain Janna School. These efforts were focused on local infrastructure and community-based environmental maintenance within the governorate. Each site hosted teams dedicated to the removal of waste to ensure regional ecological standards were met during the initiative.
Expanding Campaigns to Central Regions
Operations moved into the central governorates with activities focused on specific urban and transit corridors. Campaigns occurred in Al-Qasr District and along the western ring road in Karak. Teams also managed waste collection efforts on Al-Masfa Street in Zarqa to improve local sanitation.
Environmental maintenance extended into Madaba and Amman to address public spaces. Cleanup sites included Al-Faisaliah, Al-Lab, and Al-Malih in Madaba. Personnel concluded these regional operations at Hasban Municipality Park in Amman. These efforts targeted waste removal to maintain regional ecological standards across these central districts.
Reaching Southern and Eastern Districts
Cleanup efforts reached the eastern Al-Dhulayl District, where teams organized operations at Abu Huwaidi School and the White Cement Factories Triangle. Volunteers focused on waste removal at these specific locations to address local environmental conditions.
Further operations expanded into the southern districts. Personnel conducted cleanup activities at the cemetery of Abu Ubaidah Amer ibn Al-Jarrah in Deir Alla. Additional work occurred at Al-Qadisiyah Secondary School for Girls in Tafileh, where staff and volunteers managed debris collection. Teams concluded these regional initiatives at Rashid Secondary Mixed School in Ma’an. These sites served as the final points of the nationwide project, ensuring that schools and public areas received maintenance to support the ministry’s goal of improving ecological standards across the country.
Promoting Long Term Environmental Responsibility
The Ministry of Environment introduced the 'Keep Your Bag in Your Car' initiative to support long-term ecological goals. This campaign encourages drivers across Jordan to store waste in bags inside their vehicles for proper disposal rather than discarding items on roadsides. By targeting mobile waste management, the ministry aims to reduce littering along major transit routes and within urban centers. The program functions as an extension of the broader cleanup efforts conducted in governorates such as Balqa, Zarqa, and Amman. Officials designed this strategy to influence individual behavior and maintain improved environmental conditions following the recent cleanup operations. Participants are encouraged to adopt these habits to ensure that public spaces and highways remain clean as part of the country's ongoing commitment to ecological standards.
