The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) formally adopted Jordanian Standard JS ISO/IEC 10779:2026 on 25 October 2026. This new national accessibility standard is based on the international ISO/IEC 10779:2020 framework. The implementation aims to align domestic technical requirements with established global benchmarks for user interface accessibility. Officials from the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization confirmed the adoption as part of an effort to standardize protocols across the country. The adoption of JS ISO/IEC 10779:2026 serves as a primary mechanism for the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization to formalize technical expectations for domestic industries. By referencing the international ISO/IEC 10779:2020 framework, the organization ensures that the local regulatory environment remains consistent with global developments in accessibility technology.

Office Equipment Accessibility Guidelines

Jordanian Standard JS ISO/IEC 10779:2026 mandates specific accessibility guidelines for office equipment. These requirements address the physical and digital interfaces of equipment to ensure functionality for older persons and persons with disabilities. By incorporating these technical specifications, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization aims to remove barriers that frequently limit access to standard workplace tools. The implementation of these guidelines ensures that office equipment is designed to be usable by older persons and persons with disabilities. The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization has structured these requirements to facilitate a more inclusive working environment by addressing the specific needs of these user groups through standardized design criteria.

The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization also adopted Jordanian Standard JS ISO 21001:2026 on 25 October 2026. This standard is based on the international ISO 21001:2025 framework and establishes formal management system requirements for educational organizations. The objective of this adoption is to provide a structured approach for schools and training institutions to improve their service quality while fostering greater inclusivity for all students. By adopting JS ISO 21001:2026, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization seeks to standardize the operational frameworks of educational institutions, ensuring that management systems are aligned with the international ISO 21001:2025 benchmark. This initiative is intended to enhance the overall service quality provided by educational organizations to their diverse student populations.

Engineer Wafaa Al-Momani, Acting Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, stated: "The organization’s commitment to developing the national standardization system and keeping pace with international references in ways that promote accessibility and inclusion and improve the quality of services provided to all segments of society."

Implementation of these standards reflects the ongoing integration of international benchmarks into the Jordanian regulatory framework. Educational bodies are now expected to align their management practices with the requirements set forth in JS ISO 21001:2026 to ensure that service delivery remains equitable. These management system requirements are designed to help educational organizations systematically improve their service quality and inclusivity. Simultaneously, the guidelines for office equipment establish a baseline for manufacturers and suppliers operating within the country to accommodate a diverse user base. Through the adoption of these standards, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization reinforces its role in overseeing the technical and management quality of services and products across Jordan.
