The Economic and Social Council (ESC) held a consultation session regarding the tourism sector strategy in Jordan on Thursday, 22 October 2026. Hosted in Amman, the meeting took place in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. ESC President Musa Shteiwi oversaw the event, which brought together various stakeholders to evaluate the current direction of the national tourism framework. Participants reviewed existing policies and discussed potential adjustments to improve sector performance. The session served as a formal venue for the two government bodies to align their objectives for the upcoming period. Officials examined specific initiatives intended to support industry growth and address ongoing challenges within the local tourism market.
Analyzing Tourism Sector Potential
Participants at the consultation session reviewed findings from a NOISE analysis, which forms one part of a wider study on the economic importance, competitiveness, and return on investment of the tourism sector. Musa Shteiwi, President of the Economic and Social Council, clarified the status of this assessment during the meeting. "The NOISE analysis represents only one component of the study and should not be viewed as reflecting its full findings or scope," Musa Shteiwi stated.
The study seeks to pinpoint specific opportunities to enhance the performance of the tourism sector in accordance with the Economic Modernization Vision. According to Musa Shteiwi, the project maintains a broad focus. "The broader assessment examines the sector's economic significance, competitiveness, investment climate, legislative and regulatory environment, and return on investment," he explained.
A core objective of the research involves assessing the competitiveness of Jordan against other regional and international destinations. This comparison aims to determine how the national market stands relative to competing tourism sites.
A future meeting will bring together tourism representatives and relevant authorities to examine the draft findings of the study. This gathering will serve as a platform to reach an agreement on a national roadmap for the industry. Musa Shteiwi emphasized the necessity of collaboration with private-sector participants to refine the final outputs. "The importance of consulting private-sector representatives to incorporate their expertise and observations into the study, helping develop comprehensive recommendations and a practical roadmap for improving the sector's competitiveness and sustainability," he said.
